The God Of Beer Silenus Stein C1900 Very Rare Acquired from a washington dc estate and fresh to the market, this westerwalder neukeramik lidded beer stein in the image of the god of beer (silenus, i think â? But perhaps with some satyrs' influences). Very typically jugendstil / art nouveau in style with its flowing lines, high relief and naturalistic form (note the hops as silenus' hair). It appears that htis is a very rare form to find a beer stein. At least from all the research i've done.
Date circa 1900s. Marked mgw westerwalder neukeramikâ? The merkelbach and wick grenzhausen, germany, bauhaus school pottery trade mark is embsosed on the bottom. Dimensions approximately 7 inches tall & approximately 4 inches diameter at basecondition stoneware with pewter lid hinge that is in very good condition as pictured. It has a repair at the leading egde of the lid. All in all, a nice 100 year old patina. See the several pictrues for details. For shipping cost, i will let ebay do a usps priority mail postage calculation with respect to your postal location.
