After looking at this auction see the last picture of hte other two we have on our other auctions. I believe this stein is older than the toher two we have. It has a efstive jester motif. It's tall at 13.5. While you look at the pictures, bear in mind, this piece is dirty.

It needs a good cleaning. Sorry. It is estate-fresh or attic fresh actually! There is a fantastic variety of characters on this piece, from the whippet type dog at the jesters feet to a spartan or trojan soldier on the handle. The handle is supported by a bearded mans bust.

Tehn a ram head at the top. Above the jesters a starry sky is well represented above a set of castles. And on either side within cartouches are some sentiments as follows halt leib und seeke gets eg fund (i am sure i botched that as well as what's on the other side) fin frilcher crunk zur morgen gund. I cannot tell the difference between hte f's and the g's sometimes. I leave it to you to drop me a line with a translation please.

Underneath is stamped a drgm no. 154927. Gesetzlich geschuttet germany 7. The dgrm number is a design registration number deutsches reich gebrauchsmuster (german reich registered design).

My research indicates this number 154927 falls right around 1895 to1900 or so. Giving you a good guaranty of it's aeg but, frankly, i didn't really need that.

The geschttet designation and other design elements are tell-tale enough ot date the piece. Near the handle is the number 744 (see picture). I don't know what that's about. Please advise. There is no damgae to these great old piece but there has been an old repair on the pewter thumb lever.

(see picture) i think this is fairly unremarkable adn takes nothing away from the earthenware. In other words i believe i would rather have na issue there versus the vessel itself. No cracks or chips ogod glaze as mentioned earlier, it is a lil grundgy though. A fantastic piece certain ot enhance your collection. Possible a rare or scarce piece.
